Oil on Canvas
Part 3 of a 14 part series.
Release Date 1988
Featuring a number of new innovations, the cut of the Air Jordan 3 was a mid, which had never been seen on a basketball shoe. Possibly the most distinct aspect of the Air Jordan 3 was the upgrade in materials. The upper was constructed of a rich full grain tumbled leather and was built to feel broken in, fresh out of the box. The shoe also featured faux elephant skin, special request from Michael.
The ad campaign for the Air Jordan 3 featured the young, unknown filmmaker, Spike Lee, and his Mars Blackmon character.
Michael averaged 35PPG on his way to being voted to his 4th straight All-Star game, where he won the MVP award and 2nd straight Slam Dunk title. Not to mention he was also voted the Defensive Player of the Year, won the league scoring title, and to home the league MVP trophy, all while wearing the Air Jordan 3.
